well well i’ve managed to go most of the fall without doing a cyclox race. i happened to have the day off & figured after waking up at noon. why don’t i do a race.as a bicycle mechanic we don’t get many weekend days off in the winter. so doing organized bicycle events is hard.
we have had a crud tonne of snow lately & it figured to be epic. i got all my stuff together. figured out where harold j stump park was( the back of beyond , or almost colorado) . jumped in the car & took off.
the course looked good.

no dangerous spots for joel with my high center of gravity. so i was game. there was a great showing for it being a thursday race. my guess is 60. mark thomas , teresa & the whole local cycling gang did a great job getting everything ready.boulevard beer was a great sponsor. loads of good beer( none left after the singlespeed race was done.) we started off up a paved path into the mud slog of death. then you had to dismount to get around a hairpin turn. the temperature was dropping as we raced so the sloshymudsnowslushstuff was getting worse as we raced. dean parker had a whoh nellie moment in the first lap allowing me to get ahead of him. that happens on the fifth of never.so i put the pedal down to try to get a gap. the run sections were taking a toll because you couldn’t get back in your pedals. the whole last lap i couldn’t clip in. dean tried to close the gap but the earlier race took a toll on him. the leaders lapped us at a timely spot to let us off the hook for another lap. camron let me know to try to stay clipped in well that helps if you can ride everything. he is a hoss.

some of the good people who put the race on.

the lanterne rouge van. the lanterne rouge dude is a rockstar he helps with alot of cross races .without him we would be poorer.

camron with his bikeiceckyle & theresa after the race.

shadd smith helping with tear down. he wins the races then helps . good man.

this is 75% ice & 25% mud everything was covered with this.

i figure i need to clean the chain.it took 2 hours in the basement for thus to thaw.
well loads of fun was had by all . no animals were hurt in the making of this race. so all is good.
this was sent to me by a old racing friend. i was thinking as it played that i thought a drive to northwest nebraska was a long trip.
watch & feel small.
dream beautiful dreams
happy new year….big grin…joel
