in the west bottoms you never know who you will meet. one day it was a guy who owns about 1/4 the land down there .an strangeĀ acquaintance from a past life . or one of my cycling friends like james the super tourist. one of the most talented riders ever who has never raced & doesn’t feel the need. he rides so beautifully. or other assorted bicycle freaks like me.
today it was bob the man from Minneapolis . this dude was half inside a dumpster when we rolled up on him . we had to stop & see his bike & trailer. he had a child’s carrier trailer with the top cut off totally. the under frame was bolted to a piece of plywood. with 2 plastic crates bolted to it. damn it was some beautiful backyard engineering. he had only a front brake working on his dual suspended magna. this bike was running with duct tape & baling wire holding it together.we stopped & talked to him for about 20 minutes. we found out where down by the river his tent was. how he befriended a stray dog who guards his stuff now . her giving birth to her pups in his tent in the coldest night of December. this guy had the best smile & love of life. he talked forever about his trailer & other contraptions for living. i wish most people had half of the interest in life he has. we went our own way after a while of getting to know bob. but still thinking of the man from Minneapolis. best backyard engineer, beautiful soul.
michelle & i rode thru town for a few hours more pointing out cool little old houses & strange gardens. weird stuff was around every bend & alley.she took some wonderful pictures. she even had me seeing good shots.
dream beautiful dreams…..joel

No, it was a totally different guy. Shaggy, grey-and-sandy hair, very deep-set blue eyes, heavily lined face, probably mid-to-late 50s.
